The
Australian Podiatry Association is an independent,
member organisation with a long history of service both
to the profession and the community. The Australian Podiatry
Association (APodA) is the peak representative body for
our profession and boasts a membership of approximately
550 members, or 70% of registered podiatrists in
Victoria. As
such, it is the only group which can represent the
profession as a whole or act on its behalf.
Members join the Association at a
state level, with each Association acting autonomously.
Each state Association holds membership at the
Australasian Podiatry Council (APodC) which functions at
a national level.
The APodA has a number of key
roles:
-
To
represent the profession
to government and associated bodies, health funds
and other professional associations.
-
To
maintain professional standards
through continuing education and resources to ensure
the competence of practitioners.
-
To
maintain ethical standards
by encouraging members to comply with the Code of
Ethics
-
To
promote the profession
through planned promotional events, liaison with
external bodies and through provision of promotional
materials to members.
APodA membership entitles
podiatrists to a voice in the organisation which is
largely instrumental in the future direction of our
profession. The
APodA exists solely for the benefit of its members.
It needs your support and involvement to meet its
vision and mission.
Membership is open to any qualified podiatrist who is of good standing and
agrees to abide by the Association's Code of Ethics and professional
standards. Podiatrists must also be registered in Australia. Podiatry students are also eligible to seek honorary student membership.
